Public Park and Gardens

Background

The Landscaping company offers a sustainable approach of landscaping to their residential clients. They are creating landscapes that are responsive to the environment and regenerative.

They evaluated a multitude of non-chemical herbicides as part of the sustainable programme. FireHawk Bioherbicide was chosen as their preferred weed control product due to its high performance, environmental profile, independently validated benefits to soil health and cost structure.

Solution

FireHawk Bioherbicide was applied in a spray solution of 6.4 oz concentrate per 1 Gallon of water. Spray backpacks equipped with full cone nozzles were used for weed control.

The Landscaping Team used FireHawk Bioherbicide in the same way as they used chemical herbicides like glyphosate beforehand. They confirmed that our bioherbicide worked as well as chemical herbicides in their landscaping application with the benefit of FireHawk suppressing the regrowth and allowing them to extend the periods for resprays.

Results

FireHawk Bioherbicide delivers effective weed management across many residential landscaping projects meeting the Landscapers performance, cost and sustainability goals. FireHawk Bioherbicide delivered a drop-in product solution. The Landscaping and Garden Maintenance Teams have fully embraced the offering as health criteria are a strong driver in their decision making.

In addition to its weed control performance, FireHawk Bioherbicide acts fast, is fully biodegradable, leaves no residues, and is people, pet and environmentally friendly. It suppresses regrowth, supports soil health in line with regenerative farming practices and has no withholding period.

Small Vineyard Operation

Background

Weeds and grasses are typically desiccated using chemical herbicides like Glyphosate, Diquat or Glufosinate in small vineyard operations. There is a strengthening demand for effective non-toxic weed control from smaller operators as they become more aware of global litigation and health concerns using toxic chemical herbicides.

Solution

FireHawk Bioherbicide offers non-toxic weed control that works and is well suited for the use in smaller operations. FireHawk Bioherbicide is applied in a spray solution of 6.4 oz concentrate per 1 Gallon of water, typically at 100 Gallons per acre. Backpack sprayers or a medium sized sprayer on a four wheeler with remote hand sprayer are typically used.

Results

FireHawk Bioherbicide delivers effective weed and grass control on Hobby Farms. It is an effective desiccant and very suitable for weed and grass control in orchards, vineyards, and for spot spraying in paddocks and around horticultural produce. In addition to its desiccation performance, it is fully biodegradable, leaves no residues, and is people, livestock and environmentally friendly.

It supports soil health in line with regenerative farming practices and has no withholding period. Nonanoic Acid, its active ingredient, occurs naturally in many food crops.

Larger Vineyard Operations

Background

Weeds and grasses under vine and suckers are typically desiccated using chemical herbicides like Paraquat, Glyphosate or Glufosinate in Australia. Herbicides like Paraquat are still used here but are forbidden in Europe and other countries due to their high toxicity.

These herbicides are toxins and impact on the person handling and spraying these dangerous chemicals, on the environment, biodiversity and soil biology.

Solution

Many weeds and grasses like rye grass have developed glyphosate resistance. Therefore a double knock of a glyphosate spray followed by a paraquat spray is required. We are using more and more chemical herbicides in our vineyard operations.

There is a strengthening demand for effective non-toxic weed control from vineyard operators as they become more aware of global litigation and health concerns using toxic chemical herbicides. Chemical residues in wine is also becoming an increasing concern.

Weeds and grasses under vine and suckers are controlled in vineyards using FireHawk Bioherbicide. FireHawk Bioherbicide was applied in a spray solution of 6.4 oz concentrate per 1 Gallon of water at a 75 - 100 Gallons per acre application rate.

Large scale sprayer used 6 sprayer stations spraying 3 rows at once. Spray width was 6 feet per row. Tractor speed was 5 miles per hour.

FireHawk Bioherbicide delivered effective weed management under vine and sucker control in vineyard.

Invasive Weeds - Serrated Tussock

Background

Serrated Tussock is an invasive noxious weed of pasture with significant impact on the quality of the pasture and livestock.

Its presence greatly affects land value. Livestock are unable to digest the plant due to its high fibre and low protein content, resulting in a loss of condition and in extreme cases starvation. Serrated Tussock is a prolific seeder and propagates through germination of their seeds.

Serrated Tussock is typically treated with Flupropanate or Glyphosate. Issue with Flupropanate includes its very high toxicity. Glyphosate kills the plant, but not the seeds and therefore will not effectively control this invasive weed.

Solution

FireHawk Bioherbicide was applied in a spray solution of 6.4 oz concentrate per 1 Gallon of water at a 100 Gallon per acre application rate for the spot spraying operation. Used a medium sizes sprayer on a four-wheeler with two remote hand sprayers.

Sprayed into centre of plant and over seeds as seeds were already developed. Resprayed minor regrowth from roots and germinated seeds from seed bank in soil after 4 weeks. The second spray established weed control. Touched up as required to maintain result as seeds in soil germinated over longer period of time.

Results

FireHawk Bioherbicide delivers effective control of Serrated Tussock. It not only desiccates the Serrated Tussock plants but also desiccates their prolific seeds and stops them from germination. This gives FireHawk an edge over other herbicides like glyphosate that typically desiccate the plants but not the seeds.

In addition to its desiccation performance, FireHawk Bioherbicide is fully biodegradable, leaves no residues, and is people, livestock and environmentally friendly. Professional Weed Control

Professional Weed Control

The true cost of lost production from weeds is much greater than the weeds themselves. The unforeseen cost that is left behind with the use of synthetic chemicals is hard to measure but even harder to remediate.

FireHawk Bioherbicide is very versatile and can be used by homeowners gardeners (of any size), homesteads, landscapers, parks and recreation areas, and more!
